On 2-3 February 2022, five of the UMN library's librarians participated in the Assessment for Librarian Certification activity held at the Auditorium of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia.
This competency certification is intended for library management staff, namely librarians and library technical staff who meet the requirements. The implementation of this certification is carried out by an independent institution formed by the National Library and the Professional Association of Librarians and has a license from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) as the authority for administering professional certification in Indonesia.
Librarian Certification is the process of providing certificates that are carried out systematically through standard procedures and refer to applicable competency standards. The competency certificate issued is proof of state recognition of a person's competence for a particular skill according to the relevant competency standards. The standard used in conducting the certification is the Indonesian National Work Competency Standard (SKKNI) for the Library Sector.
Librarians of UMN Library sent several delegates to take part in librarian certification with various competency clusters, such as library essential services, library collection development, library service promotion, and information literacy development. Librarians take various competency exams using the methods of written exams, interviews, observations, and practice in carrying out the unit of activity being tested.
By participating in this certification activity, the Librarians of UMN Library is considered competent as a librarian and is formally recognized following national standards. In addition, this activity also increases the professionalism of librarians and determines the feasibility and readiness of a librarian in providing excellent library services.
